Dustin Brown

Founder
Dustin’s journey in technology and design started at a young age. The fantasy worlds of 2000’s 3D gaming drove him to understand, build, and program computers. Dustin got his introduction to programming in High School with Virtual Basic, HTML, and virtual battlebots. This expanded to Matlab and Java in College, as well as PHP.

After taking a hiatus from the University of Pittsburgh and the pursuit of a Philosophy and Computer Science degree Dustin decided to try to find work welding. After obtaining a certification in SMAW from the Community College of Allegheny County he worked for short time as a Sheet Metal Fabricator in Odessa, TX - here he honed his hands-on drafting and fabrication skills as well as gaining a re-introduction to CAD through CNC machining.

After returning to Pittsburgh Dustin chose to pursue work in wiring and programming surveillance cameras with the basic computer networking skills he had. This led to a proficiency in both Analog and IP Camera installation and troubleshooting as well as Access Controls.

With this base knowledge in electromechanical controls he then acquired a position as an HVAC Controls technician where his practical and applied knowledge of thermodynamics and mechanics were refined substantially. Dustin is well versed in the troubleshooting and programming of Legacy and current Johnson Controls equipment as well as Programmable Logic Controls and HVAC methodology generally.

When the pandemic hit Dustin decided to start his own business and founded Stalwart Technologies LLC - originally as a residential Handyman and HVAC service. Soon, however, the focus shifted from this to Research and Development starting specifically with the Progressive Brakelights project which Dustin prototyped with an Arduino. This introduction combined with the ability to design PCBs and the addition of a 3D printer really increased the scope and speed of the iterative design process and soon work had been done on the ThermoBelt, a cooling respirator for welders, as well as a wearable earbud charger and electronic utility device called the Powerband.
